New equipment kickstarts Common Ground QLD wellbeing and fitness program
Common Ground Queensland are taking active steps to provide healthier opportunities for some of the most vulnerable people of our community following their success in the 2015 SUEZ environnement Community Grants Program.
The group has received a $3,314 grant from SUEZ environnement to purchase mobile training equipment and fitness aids for their new ‘Wellbeing and Fitness Program.’
Common Ground Queensland supports one of the most vulnerable parts of our community and provides them with support services and security to keep them housed, healthy and stable. The new equipment will provide their tenant community in South Brisbane with the opportunity to live a healthier and active life with the associated benefits of improved mental health, physical fitness, social interaction and recreation.
Chris White, SUEZ environnement’s Queensland Strategic Development Manager, presented the cheque to Common Ground Queensland on Friday at the Wellbeing and Fitness Program launch and said the company was pleased to support this local community group with their future health and wellbeing aspirations.
“Common Ground is a large, well-regarded organisation with strong ties and respected relationships with their local community. Their work focuses on the most at risk and marginalised Australians. We are proud to support them in this small way to help reach their energetic goals.”
CEO of Common Ground Queensland, Sonya Keep was thrilled to receive the news about the grant.
“We believe that many of our 149 tenants will take part in this program and benefit from the personalised and supervised wellbeing and fitness sessions on a daily basis.”
”The program will also complement the suite of existing tenant participation programs offered which facilitates the delivery of a holistic supportive housing model.”
”Thanks to SUEZ environnement, we will be able to provide a safe and secure workout space which is accessible to our tenants, many of whom are on a low income or have had a previous history of homelessness.”
Over the past two years, the SUEZ environnement Community Grants Program has provided more than $250,000 to inspiring local organisations and projects. This year, 39 community groups across Australia have been awarded more than $160,000 in community grant funding to help realise their project dreams.
