SUEZ Community Grants

Creating a sustainable future

QLD - Mackay Surf Lifesaving Club

The $5,000 SITA community grant will help the Mackay Surf Lifesaving Club to purchase a Cernia Beach Cleaner.  This essential piece of equipment will dramatically improve the litter and rubbish problem of the patrolled and adjacent sections of Habour Beach.

With over 100,000 residents and annual visitors to the Mackay region who enjoy the coastal lifestyle, the SITA grant will also assist the lifesavers to educate the public, and club members, on keeping their litter for proper disposal.

President of the Mackay Surf Lifesaving Club, Peter Ridland, said "This grant will enable us to avoid rubbish being swept into the ocean which leads to a cleaner aquatic environment and reduces the impact on fish, aquatic mammals, turtles and sea birds. We will be able to provide a clean and safe coastal venue for tourists and local community minimising injury caused from litter."
