VIC - Pakenham Girl Guides
Girl Guides provide a non-formal education program that engages girls in fun and energetic activities whilst making friends and enjoying the great Australian outdoors. For over 100 years in Victoria, the Girl Guides community has provided opportunities for girls to develop a sense of community, social justice, strong values and environmental awareness.
In Pakenham, the Rainbow Girl Guides are particularly keen on environmental preservation. The $3,000 SUEZ Community Grant has enabled them to purchase and install a rainwater tank system at their local guide hall. With the new rainwater tank, the site will be able to collect and recycle water that is naturally available during rainy periods not only reducing current utility bills for the not-for-profit organisation, but providing the impetus to engage Guides as young as five years old in the benefits of water conservation.
The community grant was presented at Girl Guide Camp Fire ceremony in July, attended by Cardinia Shire Council Mayor, Leticia Wilmot and Councillors George Blenkhorn, Jodie Owen and Collin Ros.
