WA - Riding for the Disabled Oakford
Riding for the Disabled Oakford in Western Australia is a voluntary organisation that provides a range of multi-diagnostic services to disabled children and adults through horse riding activities.
The $5,000 SITA Community Grant will help RDA Oakford complete its undercover horse tie up area. In particular, they will complete the construction of a purpose built ramp that will facilitate the safe mounting up of the riders onto the horses. As the majority of the 100-plus riders that participate in this activity are not able to mount a horse from the ground this ramp will ensure that the riders are at an optimum height to be helped onto a horse. The ramp will also incorporate a hoist for severely disabled riders.
President RDA Oakford, Michael Hidding, said "The health and safety of not only the riders and horses, but also the volunteers and carers, will be tremendously enhanced by this custom built ramp."
