SUEZ Community Grants

Creating a sustainable future

WA - Station Street Mens Shed

The Station Street Men’s Shed located in Cannington, Western Australia aims to provide an activity centre for men where they can meet and develop personnel friendships, learn about maintaining good health, develop personal and manual skills, and become involved in community projects.

Formally opened on 19 September 2013 by Ray Porter, President of the Cannington Agricultural, Horticultural and Recreation Society, the Station Street Men's Shed will provide men of all ages in the Cannington region with a place they can:

  • Pursue hobbies and interests
  • Learn about their own and other men's health and well-being issues
  • Contribute to their families, their friends and their community

The $5,000 SITA community grant will help the Men's Shed purchase large pieces of machinery to successfully run a woodworking and metalworking workshop.

What is a Men's Shed?

The modern Men’s Shed is an updated version of the shed in the backyard that has long been a part of Australian culture. Men’s Sheds are springing up all around Australia. If you looked inside one you might see a number of men restoring furniture, perhaps restoring bicycles for a local school, maybe making Mynah bird traps or fixing lawn mowers or making a kids cubby house for Camp Quality to raffle. You can find out more about your local men's shed here
